Hooray, hooray, it’s Towel Day!
Each year since his death in 2001, May 25 has been dedicated to the late Douglas Adams. The British writer, whose most enduring work has been The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, was an avid proponent of technology and an environmental activist. His computer game and e-book designs are some early examples of hyper-text fiction and transmedia projects. Much of his work functions as social commentary, but it manages to also be uproariously funny science fiction at the same time.
In other words, Adams was a badass creative. I’ve loved his work since I first encountered it, some 10-ish years ago. I was handed a copy of the entire Hitchhikers series by a friend, and it was easily one of the best book presents I’ve ever received.
